Find out costs, formats, major topics, and even ties to classroom learning outcomes. You can even filter by region and audience (students in a certain grade, parents, etc.). Report on Family Engagement in Child and Youth Mental Health Now Online

The FORCE Society for Kids' Mental Health has published the report, "Engaging Families in Child & Youth Mental Health: A Review of Best, Emerging and Promising Practices". It takes a look at literature which covers the topic of family engagement in child and youth mental health. The report goes on to identify evidence and strategies that promote engagement, as well as relevant policies and practices.

New, More User-Friendly Fact Sheets Now Online

Several new factsheets have just been posted online. These new sheets are more user-friendly in both look and content.

The new sheets include: introductions to Bipolar Disorder, Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder, Stress, Panic Disorder, Seasonal Affective Disorder, Schizophrenia, and Child and Youth Mental Health; tips for Improving Mental Health, Cutting Back or Quitting Alcohol, Methamphetamines, Tobacco and Cannabis, Getting Help for Substance Abuse, and Hosting a Teen Party; and information on Alcohol, Cannabis, Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder, Methamphetamines, Cocaine, Heroin, Tobacco, Benzodiazapines, Ecstacy and Other Club Drugs, and Low-Risk Drinking Guidelines for BC.

New Visions issue on Medications

Check out the latest issue ofÂ Visions: BC's Mental Health and Addictions Journal on medications. Medications are often a double-edged sword. They can lift symptoms of mental illness or addiction so that people can feel well enough to do all the other hard work needed for recovery. But, they also present a host of complex challenges from side effects and interactions, to affordability and access. This issue of Visions aims to help consumers feel more like partners in their care and tries to present a helpful guide into the complex world of pharmaceutical treatment of mental or substance use disorders.

New bipolar disorder factsheets

A new set of user-friendly fact sheets developed by Mood Disorders Association of BC for the BC Partners covers the types of bipolar disorder, myths and facts surrounding bipolar disorder, causes of bipolar disorder, and treatments like medications and ECT. There are also special fact sheets designed to help people with bipolar disorder manage risky behaviours, prevent future episodes, and one to help family members support loved ones with the disorder.Â

Managing Child Anxiety - Seminars in the Interior

AnxietyBC, with assistance from F.O.R.C.E. Society for Kids' Mental Health are presenting a free information session on managing child anxiety. The seminar will teach parents how to identify anxiety disorder in their children and how to manage it. This is a family skill building seminar, led by a psychologist specializing in the treatment of anxiety disorders.The seminar will be held in Salmon Arm on February 11, 2009 and in Kamloops on February 12, 2009.Â

Interactive French Wellness Modules Now Online

Three of the popular Wellness Modules translated into French, previously just available as PDFs, are now available in interactive HTML versions. With the new interactive Mental Health Matters, Stress, and Problem Solving modules, you can fill out a mental health quiz, take a stress inventory, and do a full problem solving worksheet online, all in French. Or check out the interactive modules in English as well.

Helping Children in a Classroom

Teaching can be difficult especially when someone in the classroom is constantly distracted and is interrupting the class. This new teacher orientation guide prepared by the FORCE Society for BC Partners helps show teachers how to help a child or a student in the classroom who has a mental illness. It will also show teachers how to approach parents in such situations.

Check out the newly updated Family Toolkit, a workbook designed to help people care for a family member with a mental illness. Education plays a key role in caring for a loved one living with a mental health problem, and this workbook includes tools and information to help educate family members about their loved one's disorder. The workbook encourages readers to take an active role in their family member's recovery by providing resources, tips on management and relapse prevention, effective communication skills, self-care and information for parents of children and youth.
