Free public lectures on ayahuasca from CARBC
The Centre for Addictions Research of BC will host two public lectures on ayahuasca. Ayahuasca has been used traditionally in South America for thousands of years and it is gaining interest around the world, but components of ayahuasca are currently illegal in Canada. Speaker Dr. Beatriz Caiuby Labate will examine the debate around ayahuasca and explore discussions around legalization, religious freedom, cultural diversity, and health risks.

In Victoria:
The Internationalization of Ayahuasca: Public Controversies and Regulation” will take place February 16 from 4:00 to 5:00 PM at the University of Victoria, David Strong Building, Room C112.

In Vancouver:
Reflections on the International Process of Expansion and Regulation of Ayahuasca” will take place February 17 from 4:30 to 5:30 PM at Teresen Cinema (Room 1800), SFU Harbour Centre (515 West Hastings Street).

A Life Too Short: The Tragedy of Robert Enke
Ronald Reng’s biography of German soccer goalkeeper Robert Enke, first published as Robert Enke: Ein allzu kurzes Leben, is now available in English. Enke, a member of Hannover 96 and the German national soccer team, died by suicide in 2009. He struggled with depression privately, but his death touched fans across Germany and the world. Healthy living resources for ESL teachers and students
ELSA Net has developed several healthy living modules for classrooms. Topics include: Healthy Eating, Healthy Lifestyles, Diabetes, Healthy Communities, Healthy Minds, and Heart and Stroke. Attachment Across Cultures
Attachment Across Cultures examines cross-cultural attachment and child care. Based on experiences of women across Canada, the project’s toolkit for service providers supports discussions around cultural perspectives and strategies. It also describes barriers that women experience, such as difficulties around migration and settlement. The toolkit’s resource section lists services and organizations in Canada, and you can download the fact sheet in several different languages (including Chinese, Somali, Tamil, Urdu and Vietnamese). Your Human Rights in BC
The Justice Education Society and BC Human Rights Coalition have created a series of five videos on human rights and discrimination called Your Human Rights in BC. These videos are designed to introduce newcomers to their rights in Canada. Topics include discrimination in the workplace, discrimination and renting, discrimination and pregnancy, and how to make a human rights complaint.
