Rural story? Share it in our upcoming magazine

We want to hear from you!

HeretoHelp produces Visions magazine, and stories from it are featured throughout the website and in our print publication. Your story could help tens of thousands of people—in BC and beyond.

Our upcoming issue of Visions is focusing on Rural, Remote and Northern Communities.

We’re currently looking for:

  • Personal stories of people who live (or have predominantly lived) in a rural, remote or northern BC community—for example, someone with lived experience of a mental health or substance use problem, a family member of one, and/or a front-line clinician that works with this population. It could even be related to COVID, wildfires, mill closures or other major stressors that impact rural areas, sometimes uniquely. We are not only looking for stories about mental illnesses like schizophrenia or bipolar disorder. Depression, anxiety, ADHD, eating disorders, suicide, self-injury, risky drinking, opioids etc. are all in scope.
  • Profiles of innovative rural mental health/substance use programs and approaches (within BC or outside BC) that support mental well-being and/or directly address barriers faced by people with mental illness or addiction and their families in smaller, more isolated communities.

To write for us, you should live in British Columbia, Canada.

If this sounds like you, get in touch with us today! Articles are less than 2 pages long and you'd have three weeks to write. And remember you don't have to be a "writer" to write for Visions. Our professional editor will work with you to shape your story. If you can write an email and have a story to tell, you can write for us. If privacy is a concern, you can write under a fake name. You'd even be eligible for a $75 honorarium after publication this fall if we ok you to write and you're not writing this as part of your job role.

Interested? Please don't start writing just yet. Contact us at [email protected] first and share a couple of sentences about your story perspective, and please include your community name, and a phone number as well!

Deadline to contact us expressing interest: April 15, 2020
