COVID-19

We started planning this issue of Visions in the early stages of the COVID-19 pandemic, with many contributors writing as the province began relaxing some restrictions. As the pandemic continues and activities are restricted once again, there are some differences between those early days and today. We have a better understanding of risk. We know how to keep people safer. And vaccines are being manufactured and distributed, bringing hope for the end to this virus. But we still have a long way to go, and many of the same experiences and challenges remain. Frontline workers continue to worry about bringing the virus home. Parents continue to navigate the realities of school and activities during a pandemic. Adult children continue to fear for aging parents in long-term care facilities. Racism and inequalities continue to harm Black, Indigenous, People of Colour, and other marginalized communities. Despite so many uncertainties and fears, people have learned how to manage that stress and anxiety, discover what matters when life is turned upside down, and speak up when their needs are not met. This issue of Visions highlights the resiliency of British Columbians—and it’s a great resource if you need to feel less alone, find extra support or learn skills to take care of your mental health.
